HIKING AT:
FLORIDA CANYON 3 miles Adjacent to downtown San Diego, Balboa Park’s 1400 acres offer a mix of tourist attractions (the zoo, museums, galleries), sports facilities, and the usual curving, tree-shaded paths you would expect in any big-city park. Somewhat uncharacteristically, an east sector of the park known as Florida Canyon remains primarily in a wild state, with a reasonable facsimile of its native sage-scrub and chaparral vegetation intact. In recent years, the park has upgraded the trail system there, making it friendly for all self-propelled travelers. The quick ascents and descents and the irregular surfaces make these trails an excellent training ground—both to increase your aerobic fitness and to hone the physical coordination necessary for long-distance trail running. text from: There are many more hiking trails in the area, please visit trails.com for a full list. |
